How to Bring More Intuition to Intuitive Eating
There’s another really common pattern I notice when people start learning about their nutrition.
They start looking on the internet with a quick Google search that bombards them with information.
Often the information seems conflicting and their empowered decision to learn more quickly takes a turn into overwhelm.
It’s as though they have been tasked with a giant wall mural and given a tiny paintbrush.
It’s easy to lose the forest for the trees.
The child energy feels scared and lost and starts to pull on the feminine energy the way a whining toddler would tug on their mother.
This creates the overwhelm when she feels like she doesn’t have enough resources or support to tend to the child.
The missing piece that is often overlooked is the calming presence of the empowered masculine energy.
This is the one that steps in and tells the child that it’s ok to take one step at a time.
The reality is that any step you actually take toward making changes is a “good” one, no matter how small.
But when the feminine energy within you feels like she’s drowning, she starts to grasp onto anything she can or “she” will simply give up.
It feels scary to try something new... to expand your comfort zone.
There a plenty of voices that come in when we try to make a change of any kind.
The “what if’s”, “did you think about...” and the “are you sure you can do this?” That create a swirling storm of doubt.
Without the masculine energy within us being online and in charge, it’s easy to take one step of the journey and then feel as though you’re dead in the water.
This is why people are able to start a diet but find to difficult to maintain their progress.
We need not only the propulsion “he” provides but, maybe more importantly, the stability and support “he” offers.
“He” sounds calm and logical, easily able to see through the fog of information swirling around, and encouraging you to move forward.
If this calming voice (the way you speak to yourself) isn’t one you recognize, or is- most commonly- condemning, it will be difficult to support yourself as you grow.
As humans, we are intended to grow, to develop, to mature.
It’s how we’re made.
When we aren’t able to trust ourselves to take the next step, or are afraid the repercussions will be more than we can handle, our growth gets stunted.
Like a river being dammed.
This creates an eddy-effect that often keeps people swirling in for years, hoping a new plan will get them “unstuck”.
It isn’t until they are able to consciously be with the parts of themselves that feel lost and scared that moving forward will feel like floating downstream.
You’ll take one step and another will be there to take.
You can break it down one action at a time, knowing you have your own back.
Each step you take will add to your self-confidence the more you are able to provide your own support.
It will feel like magic but the magic is in being able to hear yourself and meet that specific need.
The muralist would likely use a big paintbrush to fill in the sky before going in and adding details and the same can be said in your diet.
When you have healthy habits in place, it’s easier to fine tune because that is the obvious next step.
With the child energy calmed, the feminine energy (the mature, stable one) is emotionally available instead of being tugged on and distracted.
“She” is able to intuit what is needed and communicate that to the Masculine so they need can be met.
The “parents” inside of us work together to move you forward.
This is how intuitive eating works.
The more clarity you have of what you need, the more likely you can get that need met.
You simply respond to the need instead of forcing yourself to follow a strict plan that doesn’t take into account the emotions that have been derailing you in the past.
The more needs are met, the better you feel because having our needs met is critical to our growth and confidence.
When you take responsibility for your own needs, you’ll feel more confident in life.
You’ll feel capable to get them met in a variety of creative ways which will naturally replace the ways your child has been meeting those needs (chocolate, chips, cookies, etc).
This is counter-intuitive, and this is where I specialize.
Feeling calm and supported from the inside is exactly what we explore in my transformational program, Nourished.
In Module 1, you’ll understand the basics of masculine and feminine energy so you can begin to recognize how it’s been playing out in your relationship with food. We get clear about- and heal- the wounds from old attempts that are currently convincing you that you can’t be successful if you move forward.
Module 2, we empower the masculine energy to stabilize the inner dynamic and create calmness and clarity.
Module 3 is about using your intuitive feminine energy to create a healthy, trusting relationship with your body and how to translate that into better health habits.
Module 4 is a deep dive into the child energy- the one that is easily triggered and keeps you from staying consistent or resists taking the actions that would support your growth (tracking, managing portions, trying new foods, etc) .
Module 5, having clarified all the players at hand, gives you clarity around what specifically needs to be protected and the words to create healthy boundaries on your journey toward a healthier weight.
Bonus: I include meal planning tips and strategies to help you support your new way of engaging your health so you can find a good fit and have it be easy for you.
The women who create the best results from this are naturally intuitive and value their emotional well-being.
This has drawn them to the concept of Intuitive Eating but they haven’t been able to experience the freedom they’d hoped this eating pattern would provide.
They often think it’s something they’re doing wrong in their diet that keeps them stuck, pushing harder and seeking the “missing piece” to having their diet feel good.
